The Defence Central Library held a number of activities to celebrate its 14th anniversary recently.
The activities included a Qirat competition, drama competition, declamation contests and storytelling sessions. However, the book exhibition, Sham-i-Ghazal and the animated movie shows were the highlights of the celebrations.
The three-day book exhibition was inaugurated by renowned writer, Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi as dozen of stalls from leading publishers were set up to provide a huge range of books on different subjects to hold on to the attention of every visitor.
Dr Fazal Ahmed and Brig (retd) Fayouz-ur-Rahman were invited as guests of honour to the Qirat competition. Umar Khalil (SKBZ College) obtained first position while Mujtaba Ahmed (Iqra Model High School) bagged the second position in group A. Umm-e-Aiman (Tooba High School), Rubina Sher Ali (Dukhtaran-i-Awam) and Hafiza Aabida Parveen (FatimaTuz Zahra) shared the first position while Mahpara Fatima (HSS Phase IV) got the second position. Ahsan Ali Moosa (SKBZ College) secured first position in the Declamation contest while Anam Bashir (HSS PhaseIV) bagged the second position. Brig (retd) Muzaffar-ul-Hassan, director education was the chief guest of the event.
In the Drama Competition, children from different schools presented four plays. Begum Asmia Ather graced the competition as chief guest whereas renowned TV artists Talat Hussain, Bushra Ansari and Khush Bakht Shujaat were invited to judge the competition. HSS Phase IV got first position while DHA Public School O&A Levels got second position.
A storytelling session was specially held for youngsters in the Children Library section. Mrs Rukhsana Maqsood was the chief guest while Ms. Denaz Devacha narrated the stories to a large number of enthralled children. Movies like Chicken Little, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Sky High were also screened during the three-day event.
A Shaam-i-Ghazal was held to culminate the three-day celebrations.
