Hi kids!

The cellphone has become a necessity over the past few years. Almost everyone is now using it. But sadly we have not learnt to use it judiciously. In fact, it would be more appropriate to say that we are not aware of mobile phone manners. Don’t give such blank expressions as though you haven’t heard of the term ‘phone manners’! When you are using a mobile phone you have to be aware of mobile manners and follow them too.

It is often seen that people, while sitting in a gathering, keep sending and receiving sms rather than interact with the people around them. It seems very inappropriate as we attend functions to meet people. It also irritates those around us.

Though phones are not allowed in schools, children often take them and play games on them or send messages to friends while in class. If after every few minutes someone’s phone rings, just imagine the disturbance the whole class will face and how the teacher’s concentration will be disturbed. If your school does not allow cellphones you should leave yours at home, or if you have to carry one, in order to call home in case you have a problem or have to go somewhere, either switch it off during the class or turn it to the silent mode and put it in your bag, so that it doesn’t ring; you can use it after school hours.

You should also know that using cellphones while driving is illegal. Though you are not supposed to drive just yet (most YW readers are under 18), you should make it a point to ask your elders not to use the phone while driving. Those who have an instrument with a camera should also not forget that they are not at liberty to take anyone’s photograph without his/her permission. You have to respect the other person’s right to privacy.

Little things do matter. If you take care of these you will be considered a responsible citizen.

Take care and act responsibly.

Bye!

Ed
