I hope all of you are enjoying the extra winter vacation — extended till Eidul Azha. The weather has suddenly turned chilly, even in normally mild Karachi. In places where summers are long, winter brings about a pleasant change. There are so many things which one can enjoy during this season, like basking in the sun during the day, munching on dry fruit, and drinking a hot cup of coffee while tucked up in a comforter or blanket with a nice book to read or watching a movie.
Different people have different interests — some prefer reading fiction while others go for more serious stuff such as history, biographies, etc. In your local library or the bigger book shops or even at book fairs you must have seen books arranged in a certain manner. If you don’t know yet, they are arranged according to the category or type they belong to. This is done for the convenience of the readers — they don’t have to search all over but can just check out the section in which they are interested.
But there are people who like to read all sorts of books and there are people whose interests keep changing. Interests also change as you grow up. While as a young child you were only interested in fairy tales, as you grow old you will want to read books on general knowledge or science or history, etc., depending on your temperament and mind set.
Read this week’s cover story to see the different types of books there are. Check out how many of these you are familiar with and how many interest you. There may be some you never knew existed.
