SUPER SIS

Dear Super sis

I am a brilliant student and I get excellent grades but I always end up getting the second position because of losing marks in my answers. I write very long answers and because of this I lose more than ten marks in every exam. I’m very troubled because of this habit. Please help me.
Rimsha Mehmood Hayat

Your problem is not entirely a very serious one — if you can write a lot, it’s very easy to write little as well. The best approach to write a good answer is to make it to-the-point. Though there are certain types of answers that do necessarily require the longer approach, the key to score higher grades is relevancy of content. The best way to prepare yourself is to make key-points while studying. If you are studying any theoretical subject which has a significantly large body of text, make sure to simultaneously highlight the key points or jot them down in a note book. These points will be the essence of the whole text. When you actually sit down to retain the information, do so via the points you have made. This will ensure that your brain is not over-loaded with irrelevant content, and you know your key points well. Of course, prior to that, you would have given a thorough reading or two to the main text, right?

When your paper begins, utilize the first ten minutes reading the questions and quickly jotting down the key points of their answers roughly — say at the back of the answer sheet. Also, roughly estimate the amount of time you need to devote to each answer. Now, when you start your paper, all you have to do is simply elaborate those key points appropriately. Be smart about allocating time to your answers and you’re sure to finish up the paper in good time and with higher scores. Good luck.

Dear Super sis

I am very disappointed to see some children of my age, or two or three years older than me falling in love. Why do they fall in love at this age? Instead of this why don’t they pay attention to their studies? Please kids stop this silliness, don’t forget that we are the future of our country.
Murk Komal

Well, Murk — this is more of an observation rather than a personal problem. But yeah, you’re right — people do tend to spend a lot more time than necessary on the peripheral things of life. Call it infatuation, crush, obsession or whatever, it is bound to happen to everyone sooner or later.

However, the fact still remains that a person can either make or break his/her career and future during the teenage years. The one’s who are smart and dedicated enough, know how to wait for that special someone until the time is just right. The intelligent approach is to know when to focus on more important matters, rather than losing oneself in fantastic notions.

In the end, it is a person’s capabilities and education that make him go a long way up the ladder of success, both socially and professionally. I guess it is up to us and the choices we make, how successful we become in all walks of life. What do you think? Peace.
