Poets’ Corner:

Eid
The beautiful day of Eid is here
There is laughter everywhere,no tear
People will wear clothes new and neat
No-one cares for the cold or heat
The needy are given lots of aid
For a moment, these colours of joy don’t fade
All kinds of dishes, salty or sweet
Specially sheer khurma, everyone loves to eat
See the beautiful mehndi, hear the tinkle of bangles
From children’s pockets, lots of Eidi dangles
Everyone is excited and cheerful
They pray for this day to be wonderful
From God, Eid is a gift for the fasting
And the joys of Eid are forever lasting

Whenever I look at the sky
Whenever I look at the sky
I see a bright sun of peace
And a beautiful moon of harmony
And some sparkling stars of good wishes
And some birds of love
Flying and rising up the sky
But sometimes I could not see them
Instead I see dark clouds of hate
And hurricanes of terrorism
Then my heart moans
And my soul weeps
But when I look up to my God
I feel better and relaxed
For I need peace
You need peace
And the whole humanity needs peace

The sun
The sun is a giant star,
But oh it’s too far;
It provides us heat,
To grow crops, specially wheat;
It rises from the east,
And people are awakened
to prepare a feast;
In the evening it has to set,
Every one prepares to go to bed;
The biggest star in the sky,
Then at night says goodbye.

The pride
I have in you has moved towards him,
His deep brown eyes gleamed.
And wonderful to him
the entire world seemed.
I took his hand in mine
And together we both dreamed.
He will win the beauty contest
That’s how it all seemed!
We reached the place in time
And saw the Asian cream,
But Tommy got the blue ribbon
And made me scream.
Everybody patted his head
So wonderful it all seemed
My cat made me proud just as
I dreamed.

My brother
I have a brother,
Who is loved by my mother.
He likes to eat honey,
But does not have a penny.
He is good in studies,
And has many buddies.
He has a pet bunny,
Which he named Sunny.
He likes to wear a hat,
And hates black cat.
He likes to play with a ball,
In a huge hall,
He also likes to go to malls.
He is very cute,
And likes to play with a flute.
He likes to watch Johnny Bravo,
And hates the movie ‘The Mask of Zoro’.
My brother is loved by all,
Since he is too small.

Friendship is forever
“It is rare
That you meet someone
Who with that first smile
Becomes your friend.
Someone who knows
Nothing about you one day
And all your secret thoughts the next.
Someone who asks for nothing
In return for friendship
But friendship itself.
Someone who makes it
Just as easy to share sadness
As it is to share joy.
I found that rare someone
When I found you.
And like a precious memory
A friendship like ours is forever

Nature of the sea world
Marine animals live in the sea
Which is a great interest to me
The ships sail on and on
Until the day is gone
Octopus’ are wandering away
To look for some food in the day
Little goldfishes blow bubbles to shout
when they see a shark
from its cave coming out
Seeing all this nature, a bird
flapped its wings
And the sweet merry and charming songs she started to sing.

Maimoona Abdullah, Karachi

Together we move
Together we move, together we play
Together we sing & march is way
We are the young ambassadors
Ambassadors of good will and peace
So let us live with love
Peace and harmony
Yes with harmony
Our pretty and dainty world
Into a heaven heaven on earth

Arwa Khuzema

What I did to the thief!
I was all alone one day
And felt like running away
I felt some one was there
Behind me and was coming near
I had a knife with me
I turned back, but there was nothing to see
I sat back again
And my heart started to pain
I knew someone was behind me
But I could not at all see
I went to the attic
Saw that guy and gave him a kick
He had a gun
But I had a stick
I hit him on the head
And sent him to the hospital bed
I don’t know how he survived
And I don’t know how he lived
Although I tried I tried my best
To lay him to rest
