Things To Do: Making pop-up cards

By Ghanim Akhter

Pop-up card is a kind of greeting card. When you open it, a figure pops out. Today we will learn how to make these pop-up greeting cards. They are a little difficult to make, as the cutting involved is slightly complicated. But they are not impossible to make. So come on. Let’s see how they are made.

Things you need:

* Two rectangular pieces of chart paper of equal size

* Markers

* Crayons or colour pencils

* Scissors

* Glue

Getting started:

First of all, on one sheet of chart paper, draw any object, which you want to pop out. This may be a cartoon character, a flower, a smiling face or simply a banner saying Happy Birthday or Eid Mubarak, etc.

You have to keep this thing in mind that whatever you draw it should be bilaterally symmetrical. For drawing this, first you have to fold your sheet to make a card and then draw whatever you want to in such a way that it exactly comes in the centre. Now make its outline with black broad tipped marker and colour it with sharp bright colours. Now cut this drawing neatly with scissors, making sure that the sides of the drawing are still attached to the chart paper. You only have to cut the outline of the drawing but do not detach it from the chart paper, or cut the chart paper from the sides reach the drawing.

Finishing:

Now apply glue on the back side of the chart paper leaving all the area which has been cut. Stick this over the other piece of chart paper. Fold your drawing gently out so that it pops-up when you open the card! Close the card and again open it to check if it is popping out correctly.

Decorate the front of the card according to your wish. You are now done with your card!

Eid is coming soon and it is a new idea to make greeting cards for your friends and family.
