Miscellanea: School Milk Day

A day-long carnival was organized by Tetra Pak to mark the first ever School Milk Day in Pakistan, an internationally important day, which is celebrated on the last Wednesday of every September. As part of the carnival, Tetra Pak’s dairy customers and children from more than 40 schools set up stalls to offer various fun-filled activities highlighting the benefits of drinking healthy milk.

“The objective of organizing World School Milk Day is to introduce the idea of initiating a School Milk Programme in Pakistan. The School Milk Programme is one of the best dietary Plans implemented in schools all over the world. The Programme introduces packaged milk as part of children’s lunch during school hours. This serves two purposes: it builds bones and provides energy to the mind and body and adds up to the required daily caloric intake of children,” remarked Khaled Ismail, Marketing Director of Tetra Pak Pakistan.

“One of the objectives of this carnival is to promote the habit of drinking milk among school going children. We are involving schools because they can build the habit of drinking milk in children from an early age,” adds Khaled.

With the celebration of World School Milk Day this year, Pakistan will join a select and enlightened group of countries which are consciously making efforts to improve the health of school going children. Pakistan is still in its developing stages and programmes like these can be very beneficial to our children, specially those who do not have access to safe, hygienic and wholesome milk. The celebration of World School Milk Day is another milestone initiative to support the generic UHT milk campaign launched earlier this year.

Tetra Pak’s School Milk Day carnival, which was held at the Race Course Park, offered outdoor activities such as races and games including tug-of-war, jumping castle, puppet show and a live band performance. A doctor (nutritionist) and his team were also present to advise school children to make milk a regular part of their diet. Each participating school was allotted a free stall to host different creative activities highlighting the significance of the day. Tetra Pak awarded attractive prizes to competition winners at the end of the day’s activities.
