Musical concerts are thriving much to the delight of music lovers. When the show begins, toes tap and fingers click, and heads sway from side to side in rhythm with the beat. The powerful drumming and strumming of the various musical instruments reverberate all around as music casts its magic spell on the young and old alike.
What is music? Music is the art of organizing tones into meaningful patterns of sound. In other words music might be called ‘the language of tones.’ A tone is a single musical sound.
Sound consists of vibrations which travel through the air. These vibrations can be detected by the human ear and are perceived as sound. The loudness of the sound is determined by the size of the vibrations. And the pitch (how high or low a note is) is determined by the frequency (i.e. the number of vibrations per second). When an instrument plays a note, sounds of many frequencies are transmitted.
In this way when the tones are sounded together in harmony they create a melody. A melody is actually the consequence of the rising or falling, the speed or tempo, and the loudness or softness of tones.
Music is relaxing. It can also be a medium for expression. Through music emotions such as joy or sorrow, love or anger can be expressed. So the type of music you will listen to, of course, depends on your mood at that particular time.
