Hi kids!

Ali seemed upset. His friend, Ahmed, had ended their friendship and accused Ali of misbehaving. Ali had always cherished Ahmed’s friendship. They were neighbours as well as class-fellows since they started going to school and were considered almost inseparable. People who knew them often commented that the saying “Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies” was meant for these two boys. But then suddenly they were no longer friends.

Ahmed was not even ready to hear Ali’s name. He wanted to have nothing to do with Ali ever in his life. Though Ali wanted to maintain the friendship, he didn’t know what had gone wrong and how to mend the broken ties. He had tried everything he could think of but to no avail. The worst was that Ahmed was not even telling anyone what had happened that had made him break the bond of friendship.

On the one hand people praised him for not maligning his friend and keeping whatever he thought wrong to himself. On the other, they rebuked Ahmed for being unfair to Ali.

Don’t you think that Ahmed should at least have told Ali the reason for the estrangement? It is good to keep your friend’s weaknesses to yourself and not make it public. But for your friend’s benefit you should tell him privately what he has done wrong so that he could try to change. For instance, if he has developed some bad habits or has become friendly with the wrong sort of people, he should be told about it. Otherwise he would never know his mistake and would never be able to make amends.

Cherish your friendships, be fair to your friends and stand by them through thick and thin. This is what friendship means.

Have a nice weekend!

Bye!

Ed
