Music: A Crow Left Of The Murder

By Nabeel A. Farooqui

With the multi-million dollar success ‘Morning View’ Incubus are among the top grunge rock bands like Puddle of Mudd, Tool, etc. Their latest release ‘A Crow Left of the Murder’ virtually guaranteed to confirm their commercial command, this multi-million selling Calabasas quintet aren’t nobody’s fool. This 12-track energy pack is a masterpiece you don’t want to miss.

The First track (and single) Megalomaniac lays sound the dreadful aggression firmly while the title track A Crow Left of the Murder is the first to openly showcase new recruit (bassist) Ben Kenny to the ranks with his burly-bass line weaving in and out of the guitarist Michael Einziger’s moving riffs. The down-tempo numbers like Talk Shows on Mute, Southern Girl and Smile Lines are good to hear and may be more affecting. Then comes one of my favourites, Sick Sad Little World. The omnipotent singer picking rifts and head banging percussions could really blow your mind in it. Numbers like See Deveel and Priceless continues in a metallic vein.

The tweaked-out atmosphere and the six-string soaring of Pistola, Here in my Room and Agoraphobia further affirm that they have pulled off something different. Leech being the album closer is a little hateful but a real, disturbingly normal number.

Don’t be surprised if this time they blow you away, they are still smart and more unique in their own killing way. Highly recommended!
