All over the world, examinations are considered an effective way of judging the knowledge and abilities of a candidate, but unfortunately the value of examinations has decreased nowadays in our country.
Our matriculation and intermediate examinations are held once a year, this gives students a chance to neglect their studies for a greater part of the year and they think that they can easily get higher percentage by studying only for a few months or weeks before the examinations.
A lot of choices are provided in our question papers; therefore, students can easily neglect most of the part of their syllabus. The students get the same kind of questions every year. This keeps them very relaxed. When a student gets a degree after passing these examination, even then one feels that he did not have enough knowledge about his subject.
Our examination should test the students theoretically as well as practically. The students should be able to answer questions on the basis of their real knowledge about the subject. They should have to present real proof of their intelligence and mental attitude. Memorizing the answers of some questions should not be the criteria to pass examinations.
I think, this is only possible if we modify our traditional examination system. The greater part of all the subject papers should be in the MCQ form. This will compel students to concentrate on the main concept of the topic. Moreover, the pattern of our examination papers should be changed every year. This will force students to study their courses intensively instead of focusing only on the important topics.
Our examination should be conducted efficiently and fairly.
The government should take special measures to bring our examinations standard to an international level.
