Another important day in our country’s history is just around the corner — the Defence of Pakistan Day, more commonly referred to as Defence Day.
Every year we observe September 6 with great fervour and reaffirm our pledge to defend our country against all threats. Almost 40 years after the 1965 conflict, we are still facing threats from various quarters, not least from the forces of extremism and mindless terrorism. It is the responsibility of all of us to protect our country against all harm. We have to stand united as we did in 1965 and forget our petty differences.
Besides this, we have another responsibility to shoulder. In the present times when there is so much war and destruction going on in the world, it is our duty to spread the word of peace, to portray an image of Pakistan as a peace-loving nation and to emphasize the importance of peace for our progress and prosperity. War brings suffering and destruction. Peace increases joy and happiness.
We should learn to live in peace and harmony with our neighbours and the world at large. On this Defence Day, do whatever you can to promote peace and happiness and pray that all wars come to an end.
