Confidential to Confused Aquarian At times like these, it would have been easy for me to say ‘you’re too young for all this’, but I know it won’t be of any use. So let’s take this situation of yours from scratch. Cousin ‘A’ from India seems to be a nice girl. Then again, ‘B’ from your class seems to be quite a caring person as well.
Now as you said you are not a regular flirt who likes to juggle girlfriends around. In this case then, you are suffering from an over-dose of self-induced guilty conscience. Hey, you’re only 17 — no one’s asking you to get married!
Yes, it is natural for you as a guy to feel shy around ‘certain’ girl cousins. Likewise, it is natural for cousin A to feel perhaps an unknown chemistry of sorts when she’s around you. This is precisely the reason why she gave you the ‘I expected better of you’ kind of look. Don’t you see? The best part is that no words were spoken aloud. Cousin A cannot and is not putting any strings on you. So you can go ahead and be friends with any one you like.
As for ‘B’, she’s a good friend of yours, man. Don’t ditch her for some unspoken words. Just take things slow and be a good friend to her. But trust me on one thing: she is NOT expecting or wanting you to be any more than ‘just a friend’ at this point.
Girls just want to have a nice time and have sincere friends to hang around with — no commitments. You are smart enough to know you can’t consider making permanent plans at the moment.
So take a chill pill, live in the moment, and be a friend to those who are being friends to you! As for romanticisms — leave them for when you grow older. When things get too complicated, drop me another mail. Good luck.
Confidential to Confused and Depressed Libra Okay here’s the deal. Your mom is being really smart to have made you choose pre-medical subjects in O-level. Know why? Because with science subjects, you can go into ANY field you want, be it medical, engineering, business administration, arts etc. But with arts subjects, you cannot enter into the science fields.
Here in Pakistan, with your subjects, you have a wider academic scope for the future. So if you’re dying to choose non-sciences subjects for your A levels, you’re being stupid, because that means you’re simply shrinking your future opportunities. If you do your A-level with science subjects, you have the power to sit both for medical as well as all non-medical institutes. Besides, it would be better if you also gave an additional GCE Maths paper, as this will give your career opportunities a great boost.
As for your not-wanting-to-do-medical, once you are done with your GCE’s and are applying for professional colleges, tell your mom that it will only be wise for you to apply to certain non-medical universities too, as back up. Suppose you pass the test for some non-medical institute, the truth will come out on its own that you are good enough to make a career in that field.
This itself will mellow your mom down and may be that will make her change her mind about your future. Until that time, relax, stop whining and give your O’s and A’s your best shot. P.S. And please stop saying that medicine is ‘nerdy’ and ‘lame’. It’s the coolest profession ever and doctors are the most respectable people of all. Just look around and observe how much the life of a doctor means to everyone. Maybe that will change your stereotypes a bit.
