Jeaine screams the house down

By Anita Mahmood

Jeaine was a cute eight-year-old girl. The only bad habit that she had was that she would start screaming if her wish was not granted.

Once Jeaine’s mother was going shopping. “You stay here and play with your toys”, said her mother.

“But I want to go with you,” said Jeaine.

“No, you shall not come with me,” said mother.

Jeaine started screaming. Just then her mother said, “Ok, you can come with me.”

Then one day, a group of dwarfs were passing by Jeaine’s house and they heard Jeaine screaming. The dwarfs came into her house and took her with them.

Jeaine was very surprised. She asked the dwarfs, “Where are you taking me?”

The dwarfs replied “To the Tumble Down Land. There you can scream as much as you want.”

After a day they reached Tumble Down Land. It was a village with ten or more houses. The houses were very old and not very strong.

The dwarfs took Jeaine into a house and said to her, “Start screaming.” Jeaine did as she was told. After a short while, the house fell down.

Then the dwarfs took her into another house and said to her again, “Start screaming”. Jeaine started screaming. And this time when the house fell down a brick fell on her hand.

This went on for a while, and Jeaine had felled down quite a few houses. But she had hurt a few parts of her body and she started begging the dwarfs,

“Please take me home.”

But the dwarfs said, “First you have to promise us that you will never scream again”.

Jeaine promised and the dwarfs took her home.

A few days later, Jeaine’s mother got a surprise. She said to Jeaine, “I am going to pay a visit to the aunt next door. It will only take five minutes”.

Jeaine opened her mouth and closed it. Then she very politely said, “Mother, you can go. I will stay here and play and you can take as much time as you wish”.

Her mother was very surprised. And instead of going to visit the aunt, she went to the market and bought Jeaine some new toys. Jeaine was very happy. And she never forgot the cute little dwarfs who had done such a good thing.
