I always hated being a big brother. My life was perfect until my mother brought a baby girl from the hospital when I was seven. Now everyone paid attention to her only. She just sat there, blowing out nose bubbles and I had to share all my toys with her. I was only nine but my mum always asked me to pick up her toys.
One night before going to bed, I prayed to God that aliens would kidnap my little sister. How could I have known that sometimes wishes could just come true. I climbed into my bed. A star twinkled up in the sky, which was an omen of a wish coming true. I closed my eyes.
I woke up early the next morning, feeling happy that it was my holiday. I rubbed my eyes sleepily and thought how happy I would be if my wish would come true. I jumped from my bed and stared at my sister’s empty cot. Maybe my parents had taken her downstairs for breakfast and didn’t care to ask me, I thought sadly.
My mood turned sour as I trudged down the stairs. My parents were sitting at the table dressed as if they were going somewhere.
“Junaid, is your sister awake? Her porridge is getting cold,” my mum asked.
“I will feed her myself mum. Are you going somewhere?” I inquired.
“We are going to the grocery shop. It would be very nice of you to feed your sister.” My parents left. I hurried upstairs to my room. I searched my sister’s cot and found a glowing note. It read,
“According to your wish, we, the aliens of Uranus, have taken your sister. We shall not return her.
Sign — the Head of Uranus.”
A wide smile spread across my face. “My sister is gone at last. I am alone again with no sister to look after,” I said to myself.
I ran downstairs and turned on the TV. It was really nice to watch car racing rather than girlie cartoons. But after half an hour, I got bored. I looked sideways at the neatly stacked toy cupboard. My sister would have been playing with them if I hadn’t made that wish. I thought what my parents would say when they found out about her. Maybe I would be thrown into jail forever. Panic struck me but then I made up my mind to save my sister.
I put on my leather jacket and my favourite black pants. I put on my toy space helmet and sat on my toy spacecraft. With a Boom!! I was off to Uranus.
I landed on the rocky planet. I started calling to my sister but there came no answer. Then a huge army of slimy green aliens started marching towards me. They had spiral antennas and were no taller than myself. The one nearest to me was wearing a gold crown, which glowed green. They were carrying a cage and I saw my two year old sister sitting in there, crying. When she saw me she started saying, “Ju Ju.”
“Don’t worry, sis. I have come to save you. Hand over my sister, you evil creatures! I take back my wish,” I commanded the aliens.
The chief alien spoke, “We shall never return your sister. Haven’t you heard of the saying ‘be careful of what you wish for’?” All the aliens started laughing at me.
Angrily, I drew my sword and challenged the aliens to a duel. Now, one by one, I killed all the aliens until only the chief was left.
“Please forgive me,” he begged.
“Only if you give me back my sister.”
“Anything,” he replied.
So I took off with my sister and landed back at my house just in the nick of time, before my parents arrived.
Something hit me on my head before I could apologize to my sister. I opened my eyes. My mum was calling my name. I saw that my sister was safely sleeping in her cot. My mother came to my room and soon I was telling her the whole adventure and my mistake of wishing something so bad.
“Oh dear you were only dreaming.” My mother laughed.
I still don’t know whether I was dreaming or not but I sure learned a lesson. We should always be careful what we wish for. And a baby sister is what makes a life worth living as now I have so much fun with my sister. I play with her everyday. Maybe when she grows up, she may even like to watch car race because she loves to ride on my toy spacecraft!
