Briefs: Base jumper dies after parachute fails to open


BARING: A man fell 300 metres to his death after his parachute failed to open during a base jump from a mountain face, authorities said.

The victim was one of three men base jumping from the north face of Baring Mountain about 48 kilometres northeast of Seattle.

Base — an acronym for Building, Antenna, Span, Earth — refers to parachuting from fixed objects such as towers, bridges and cliffs. —APP
