Pop-rock band ‘Rungg’ performed live for the first time in Lahore, recently. The event named ‘Jam-packed’ began at 8.00 p.m. and continued till around 11.30 p.m.
The evening was a huge success and attendance for the show exceeded the expected turnover. There was abundant media coverage ranging from major newspapers and magazines to music and entertainment channels.
The atmosphere appealed to people of all ages, particularly teenagers, due to its casual, MTV unplugged sort of a setting. People found Rungg’s performance absolutely enthralling.
There were two opening acts for Rungg: ‘Irtaash’ from Islamabad and Sajid Ghafoor from Peshawar. Both performed really well and put the audience in the mood for an evening full of good music. The lighting complemented and enhanced the mood of each of Rungg’s songs desirably.
Top model Amina Shafaat introduced the band to the cheering audience with ease and sophistication. She is a friend of the band and has always been very supportive of their music.
Rungg performed all the songs from their upcoming album and had the audience up in roars. The show was dynamic! Ifu (Iftikhar Habib) the lead vocalist and founding member for Rungg, blew the crowd away with his awesome vocals. Sarmad Ghafoor, lead guitarist for the band, mesmerized the audience with his play and intense solos. Wasim Kamal, the highly talented drummer for Rungg, performed wonders on stage. This was his first live performance with the band. Zulfi (Zulfikar-ul-Hassan), Rungg’s rhythm guitarist also played exceptionally well and overall, the band delivered an awesome performance. Raheel Joseph on base and Sheraz Siddiqui on keyboards were the seasoned session players, playing with Rungg for this exclusive night.
Rungg’s performance started with a lot of energy with Koi Jaane Na which is a very catchy song. It was followed by other beautiful songs from their forthcoming album which is self-titled and hence called Rungg. Throughout the show people kept shouting for Hum Na which was a major hit and was No. 1 on the Indus Music (IM) charts. Another amazing ballad was Bin Kahai which was lyrically not only moving but very intense due to some excellent guitar -play by Sarmad and soulful singing by Ifu. Both musicians put up a memorable display of their individual and collective talents.
Behissy, Sochna, Saath Saath and Kahan were all very enjoyable tunes and were highly reflective of the originality and diversity in Rungg’s music. The band’s latest release Meri Dunia proved to be as funky and hip as it sounds on TV. The show ended with Tu Mila which was a very melodious track.
‘Jam-Packed’ was a roaring success and labelled as the first ever show of its kind in Lahore.
