Limp Bizkit’s fourth studio collection “Results May Vary” is an embarrassment to Alternative Rock. Lead vocalist, Fred Durst, raps senseless lyrics, when he should be singing, and sings when he should be rapping.
Their orchestration seems nothing short of being left unexplored and whenever Fred Durst has preferred to keep his mouth shut, the real talents of Mike Smith (their new official guitarist) have come up.
Eat You Alive, is a “charming” love song, targeted at someone who Fred Durst obviously wants, but who (rightfully) doesn’t want him in return. Underneath the Gun is inarguably the finest track on the album, with no cursing vocals, just clean out-and-out lyrics about being lonely.
Limp Bizkit’s prosaic and hip-hop intros, contribute significantly to the failure of most of the songs on the album. This is evident in the mega-flops like Gimme The Mac, The Only One, and Phenomenon, where each chorus is followed by a horribly-constructed riff, a lacklustre formula. Build a Bridge has superbly mixed lyrics and symphony, though Fred Durst makes a dying attempt to sing melodiously. Head for the Barricade appears to be a blatant attempt to sell records, with a rotten recurring rhythm. The album concludes with the calculated ballad Drown. From an album otherwise dominated with kinetic and trouncing rock rhythms, the closing number dives into the band’s softer nature.
Well, Mr Fred Durst, results most definitely vary, which, in this album’s case, are consistently crappy and go from ‘bad’ to ‘worse’! This album is definitely one which you wouldn’t want on your CD collection.
