POETS’ CORNER

Vacations
These vacations have began
I hope they end soon.
Because they are dull and hot
Leaving me to be cross
I have got nothing to do except
The ruddy long and boring homework
Which the teacher says will be fun
But to me it’s a tough work.
Thinking about the next year
The new bag and books
Not to forget the new people
Oh! Man it would be so wonderful
If only these vacations would end.

Mubashira Irshad, 13 years

I’m in a rotten mood
I’m in a rotten mood today,
A really rotten mood today,
I’m feeling cross,
I’m feeling mean,
I’m jumpy as a jumping bean,
I have an awful attitude -
I’m in a rotten mood
I’m in a rotten mood today,
A really rotten mood today,
I’m in a snit,
I’m in a stew,
There’s nothing that I care to do,
But sit all by myself and brood
I’m in a rotten mood
If I’m still in a rotten mood,
Nobody would be my friend,
They all stay away from me,
I’ll be alone in the end,
And leave me alone to fend,
No I can’t be in a rotten mood

Harry Potter
Harry was playing Quidditch,
When Hermione saw a troll,
Ron grabbed his wand,
And a bit of coal.
Harry jumped off his broom,
And Hermione fetched some water,
Then they took it to the troll,
Whom they wished to slaughter.
They mixed the coal in water,
And Hermione said some magic words,
Then they gave it to the troll,
Who was as high as the birds.
The potion fell on the troll,
Who got burned into ashes,
Then they ran away from there,
Rubbing their eyelashes.
Gryffindor got seventy five points more,
And won the house cup,
Then Hagrid gave Harry,
A ‘thumbs-up’!

Count me in
To create future count me in
My dream is to make this world a paradise
An example of heavens ,a God‘s prize
Recreating the future,learning from past
But we are still in the very last
In the race of life and its standard
Our natural resources are eaten by a leopard
Now it up to us to save this earth
To give her a day of new birth
I‘ll throw every hazard in the bin
To create future, count me in, count me in

Nabeel Huda, Karachi.

Never quit
Never quit believing in yourself
And in your dreams,
As impossible as it might seem,
Someday you will be,
All that you hope to be.
Mountains will crumble,
The tides will wane,
And all obstacles along the way
Will no longer hold you at bay.
Have faith in yourself,
And work hard everyday
Let nothing stand in your way.
And soon you’ll have the power
To scale the tallest tower
As the night fades into day.

Ayesha Paracha, Karachi

Nature and God
The things of nature
Are the main features
They are created by god
Who is our lord
The colourful petals of a flower
And the green leafs of a plant
These are the things
which god has planned
He gave us life
And many other things
which are very nice
He did his best not to give us pain
Even if he did it was for our own sake
We must thank
God for all ha gave us
And the beauty of nature he made for us

Children
Children are the twinkling stars on the sky,
Shining on everyone passing near by,
They are happy, playful and free from fears,
Their eyes are full of innocence,
Their smiling faces are a source of life,
Their noble dreams give a message to strive,
But these little angels need special attention,
To make their world full of creation,
In order to make them better citizens,
Food, clothing and shelter are the basic needs,
Education will enable them to live and lead,
As they are the builders of their own golden future.

Anum Riaz, 13 years, Karachi

Dowry is a curse!
Dowry is a curse,
That we must realize.
Inflicting troubles on womanhood,
That we must criticize.
From dawn till sunset she is beaten up
No one’s there to hear her cries.
Her in laws ridicule her
Her family simply sighs.
Her husband sends her back for dowry,
His conscience also dies.
Marriage is a sacred relationship,
He does not realize.
