A couple of kids were sitting in the room thinking of something new and exciting to do. They were bored with the usual TV and computer games, and the sun was too hot to play outside. Suddenly one of them had an idea. He picked up the phone book, checked a number and dialled. He kept the receiver glued to his ears for a while and then put it back on the cradle. Then he dialled another number and began small talk with someone, trying to establish a friendship. The other child in the room came close to listen to what was being said from the other end. Putting the receiver down, the two of them burst out laughing. They were happy at what they were doing. They called a couple of times again, thinking that it was fun to make prank calls.
But then the person on the other end checked the number from the caller identification system and called in to make a complaint. The children had forgotten that they could be trapped through this system. It was then that the parents got to know what was going on in the other room. The kids were taken to task at their newfound activity which was a nuisance for others.
Don’t tell me that you don’t know that making a prank call can disturb or irritate someone. The person you have called might be sleeping or doing some important work or might be busy somewhere and had to leave his work to attend the phone, just to hear someone talking nonsense. But children and even some grown-ups do not realize this and take pleasure in this activity which they consider fun.
It is good to have fun but not at the expense of others. Try to find activities that keep you busy in the long summer vacations but remember that you have no right to be a cause of trouble for others. Take care! Bye! Ed
