Captive Witness is a story from the Nancy Drew Mystery series. The story starts with the young detective Nancy Drew getting ready with her friends and the tour leader, Professor Bagley, for an Austrian tour. Professor Bagely reveals that he is actually a secret agent. He had to bring ten orphaned children from Eastern Europe to take refuge on the Austrian border. He was using that tour as a cover to bring the children and wanted Nancy to help him.
Nancy also receives a message from her father to recover a stolen film. Kurt Kessler, a famous film director had created a very important documentary film, entitled Captive Witness, about the violation of human rights in his native country. He had entered his film in an important film festival, but the film was stolen and had to be recovered in just three days!
Nancy comes in contact with Herr Gutterman and Herr Burger, who trick her into kidnapping. Later they demand that she should give Kurt Kessler to them in exchange for the orphaned children and the film.
Nancy challenges that she would recover the children as well as the film, without giving Kessler to them. She discovers a clue that reveals the exact location from where the children should be brought. Emile Popov joins her group and together with her friends, Professor Bagley and Emile Popov, the undaunted and equally clever Nancy makes a very dangerous but exciting plan.
With Gutterman and his men stalking her and creating difficulties, and the tight security around the borders, there are many dangerous chances and risks. The plan’s success is quite difficult.
Will Nancy and her group successfully recover the film and the children without giving Kessler to the enemies? To find out, read this interesting book. A mind-blowing experience indeed.
