Glasses — symbolizing nerds
“Oh! She’s got glasses! Nerdy! Nerdy!”
The first time she wore those awful glasses, the little girl was so embarrassed. The bullies in her class had made her miserable by chanting “Nerdy! Nerdy!” all day long and by the time it was home time her eyes were red. Yes, it was more terrible than anyone could have expected but it is a sad truth that spectacles are not popular.
Lots of people in this world have weak eyesight, due to which they wear spectacles, but it is not necessary that they are bookworms and read a lot. Still, glasses symbolize nerds and geeks.
The principle holds true to some extent. Reading too much, keeping the book at a relatively short distance from the eyes or reading with improper lighting causes eyesight to weaken. But it is not necessary that every such person must have a weak eyesight. This is because weak eyesight is also the result of inheritance. If both the parents have weak eyesight, there are 50 per cent chances of inheritance in this case. And if one parent has weak eyesight, chances of inheritance are 25 per cent.
Still spectacles are considered stupid and boring. The image of a major nerd remains incomplete without them. Some nervous, appearance-conscious people out there are reluctant to wear them. People fail to look at this object in a positive way.
Glasses indeed can bring good looks. They do suit some people very well, for instance whose eyes are extraordinarily large. Indeed, once I was thankful to my glasses when I had eye infection and my spectacles concealed those awful spots under my eyes.
In order to look cool, some youngsters also wear lenses which are also very useful. But at times, they do become a bit tough to handle and one has to be careful all the time while using them. While they are all very well at parties, they are quite a hindrance normally. On the other hand, glasses are easy to handle. You can buy the trendiest and coolest glasses available in town, provided they suit you. While it brings out the best in some persons, others look very cute with their glasses on.
There are also some youngsters who use neither lenses nor glasses, since they think that as they have a low power they do not need to wear glasses or lenses. Their spectacles remain on their bedside table and they prefer to ignore their problem. But they never realize that their power keeps on increasing and they experience headaches and pain. In my opinion, glasses are nothing to be diffident about and ashamed of, and one should feel free while using them. My requests to all those lucky ones out there, whose eyesight is perfect, is to use it with care. Because only a person with weak eyesight knows the real value of healthy eyes
