Story Time: The detectives

By Minaam Abbas

The students of Pacific High School were happily running around as it was lunchtime. The school had re-opened a week ago after the summer vacation. The bell rang and all the students were back in their classes. Suddenly there was an announcement from the principal through the intercom. Students of classes nine and 10 were asked to gather in the assembly hall immediately.

“We have been receiving complaints about some of our boys ragging new students,” said the principal. “I want you to be alert and bring the miscreants to me as soon as possible.”

A week passed and more cases of ragging were reported. The new students were blamed for this, but no one knew who did it. Things got from bad to worse, and no one knew who was doing this.

It was Saturday morning. Sachin and Rahul, the best students of class 10 were standing near the principal’s office. Just then, two students came and said that someone had thrown tiny pebbles at them as they were entering the school. They didn’t know who had done it.

Sachin and Rahul decided to find out who was behind all this. As soon as the boys came out of the principal’s office, they asked the boys to come early the next day and told them their plan. They were asked to keep it a secret.

The next day Sachin and Rahul reached the school as early as possible and took their positions. Soon they caught two boys red-handed and bought them to the principal. Sachin said, “Sir these are the boys involved in ragging and they are not from our school”.

“They belong to Atlantic School nearby,” explained Rahul. “Their school begins a little later than ours. So they come here early and harass our students and quickly disappear. They are doing this to give us a bad name.”

“We have done our job,” said Sachin. “Please take action against them”.

“How did you boys manage to catch the culprits?” asked the principal.

“We hatched a plan,” said Rahul. “We talked to the two students who were ragged yesterday and asked them to enter the school a little early. Meanwhile, we climbed onto a tree in front of our school with our camcorder. As the two students entered, we kept a watch around to see from where the stones could be thrown. We saw it coming from behind a bush opposite the gate. We recorded every thing in our camera and we quickly got down and apprehended the boys. We knew which school they belonged to from their uniforms. And here they are. If they deny anything, we have video taped proof of their misdemeanour.”

The principle of the Pacific School called the principle of Atlantic School and told him what his students had done.

The whole school then praised Sachin and Rahul for solving the mystery. An award was given to the two boys during the school day function.
