Child marriages In many areas of our country girls are married at an early age. These girls are merely kids, not even adolescents. Islam emphasizes that the girl and the boy should at least be adolescent and should be mature enough before they are married.
Islam also emphasizes that the consent of the girl should always be taken. The government in collaboration with the Supreme Court should devise certain laws against child marriage and strict action must be taken against those who do not abide by these rules. Mehveen Aijaz, Karachi
Educational facilities It is disheartening to see that in Pakistan a large number of children are deprived of basic education. Most of them are working in various garages and industries to earn a living and are also abused by their bosses.
It is important that these kids are provided with an opportunity to attain education as well, so that they are able to strive for a better future. Parents are compelled to send their children to work due to poverty, they cannot provide their children with education because of the expenses involved. It is sad to see that the government is not paying attention towards the plight of these innocent children.
I would like to request the government to protect the precious lives of these children and set up free educational institutions in every region of the country so that they are able to acquire education. Sudheer Ahmed, Turbat
Littering Schools, roads, playgrounds are all full of litter. Wherever I go I see litter everywhere. I don’t understand how people can bring themselves to throw garbage all around. Even though we are provided with dust bins, we make sure that they remain clean by messing our surrounding. Making use of the dust bins will go a long way in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
I’d request everyone to stop playing around with our environment and strive to live a healthy life. Ala Sohail, Karachi
Importance of newspaper Life without the newspaper is hard to imagine. It is the first thing that we look at every morning. It brings us news from all corners of the world. Any event or occurrence of importance that takes place is reported by the newspapers.
Newspapers carry information for everyone such as business men, politicians, unemployed people, players and kids. It widens one’s horizons and helps us to keep abreast all the advances made in the field of science, education, medicine and technology.
Newspapers are an important pillar of democracy. Unfortunately, most newspapers have vested interests. Newspapers and education go hand in hand. We should read newspapers to learn more about the world. Mohammad Alyas, Turbat
Conserving water A lot of water is used in our day to day activities but people do not realize that they have to conserve water. They only think of today not of tomorrow what will happen tomorrow if we run short of potable water? This question never passes their minds.
Already rains are scarce if this situation continues then by 2025, two thirds of the population will be living in countries with moderate or severe shortage of water.
Worldwide an estimated 1.4 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, 2.7 billion people have no access to waste disposal which pollutes the water and 5 billion people die each year from water borne diseases. The increasing demand of water used in homes, industries, environment and agriculture is creating an acute shortage of this important resource.
I request the government and the people of Pakistan to take adequate measures to conserve water and use it with care. Hafsah Sarfraz, Sialkot
