Book: The pirate bed

By Ghanim Akhtar

The pirate bed, written by Jeremy Strong, is an interesting and strange tale. The story starts when Jenny’s old bed is broken and her father brings her a second hand bed. That bed was rather a strange one. Its shape was very odd indeed. Jenny’s mother and father were sorry because they could not manage her a new bed. But Jenny was quite satisfied with her ‘new’ bed.

That bed was a very old one. It came from a ship and was known to belong to some pirate. Jenny’s father was also told by the shopkeeper that there was a secret cupboard in the bed but no one had been able to find it so far. As soon as Jenny started sleeping in that bed she started dreaming about the ship and the sea.

Meanwhile Jenny was constantly being teased by three bullies in her school. She is very depressed because the three girls called her ‘ketchup head’ as Jenny’s hair was very messy and curled and red too! The three girls would steal her lunch every day! And one day they also took her expensive lunch box! Now Jenny was in a great trouble.

At night Jenny would regularly see the pirate ship in her dream. And to Jenny’s (and also mine) great surprise she saw pirate lady (in her dream) whose face was ditto copy of Jenny’s! Her name was Snakehair.

How would Snakehair help Jenny fight the three bullies? Read the book to find out! Another thing! On the last page of the book you will discover such a big and strange secret that it will make you jump! I am not going to tell you the secret but will give you a hint: it’s about the secret cupboard in the bed. This book is available at the OUP. As soon as you get a chance go and get the book. It’s really very interesting.
