Story Time: The Magical bracelet

By Sana Ahmed

It was Harry’s eighteenth birthday and Grandma Pat had an attitude.

After a busy day and a huge party, Grandma Pat called Harry to sit beside her sofa for a cozy conversation. “Dear son,” she began. “You are a big boy today and I have got a task for you and I am sure you will fulfil it”.

“Go on Granny I am listening,” replied Harry.

“Long ago when your father was about three months old your grandfather, Joseph, went to the sea for fishing.” She said while showing Harry his picture. “He was with a couple of friends. I remember the time when he left ... hmmm ... it was 6:30am and he didn’t came back till 10:00pm. His friends’ families and I started worrying. We even sent a couple of people to the sea but they said that no one was found in their boat and that it was floating without a single soul in it. The next day divers from all over and even the police looked for them but they were not found.” She said, and a tear came rolling down her cheek.

“Days passed but I could do nothing except crying. Many people cursed the sea of being enchanted by evil powers but I had no idea what the real matter was. There were many incidents of people vanishing after that too but no body knew what happened to them.”

“Dear Harry! I want you to solve this mystery. Investigate what is inside this sea that swallows everything. And yes, don’t forget to wear this while going into the sea.” She said as she handed Harry a sparkling gold bracelet. “It is said that it has the power to kill all evil.”

“You have chosen the right person to solve this mystery, grandma. Trust me and give me some time, I will definitely prove myself,” said Harry willingly.

“Sure my son I know you will do it,” grandma replied.

Harry was very practical. He didn’t believe that the sea was enchanted or if the magical bracelet will be of any use but still to be on the safe side he wore it. The next day he set off for the sea wearing the magical bracelet. When he dived in — he was shocked. Not even a single fish or a plant was in there. There was only water. He swam deeper and deeper but was disappointed by seeing nothing. “Where is everything?” He asked himself.

“Under my control,” a reply came.

Harry asked, “Who is this?”

A huge, black, fierce octopus came towards Harry. “It’s me, the father of all evil,” it said. “Nobody is able to see me but you can as you have the magical bracelet. Give it to me and I will set everyone free. I was waiting for this day to come.”

Harry was astounded. The monster knew that he had the bracelet. Harry knew that he couldn’t trust such an evil being. “How can I trust you?” Harry asked. The octopus remained silent.

Now Harry had a plan. “First set every one free then I’ll give you this bracelet.” The monster frowned but agreed. He swished his wand and said “STARDEW FARDEW HARDEW WACK ALL THE CREATURES COME BACK”. In a split second everything was back to normal. The fishes, the plants and everything. The sea was once again delightfully overloaded.

“Now give me the bracelet,” said the monster. It was the time for Harry to use his plan. He said, “Okay.” and held the bracelet in front of the octopus and said “STARDEW FARDEW HARDEW WACK. UGLY MONSTER GO BACK”. The monster screamed, “What have you done? You have used my spell on me. Aaaa help, I am dying, help, help”. The monster vanished.

Harry had done something extremely remarkable. He swam upwards and as soon as he came out, he saw many people at the seashore. They all were wet and weak. Harry understood who they were. They were the people who had vanished long before. He announced that they all were free now and could go home.

Then he started looking for his grandpa. He found a person wandering here and there, whom he thought was Joseph. He asked him his name and was delighted to know he was his grandpa. He told him that he was Harry, his grandson, and they both set off for home. As soon as granny opened the door she was overjoyed. She kissed Harry on his forehead and told him how proud she was.
