Hi kids!

The beginning of March brings with it the reminder that exams are approaching. Some schools have their annual examinations in March/April and some in May. Matric, O’ Levels and Intermediate exams are also held around this time. Whatever the month the exams are to be held, the exam fever has started to creep in. Some of you are in the habit of studying throughout the year. For them there is no need to worry, they are up-to-date and just have to revise before the exams. But some wile away their time in having fun, watching TV, surfing and chatting on the Net, doing everything except paying attention to studies. Watching TV, surfing, chatting, playing, having fun is all right, as you need time to relax and enjoy life. But these should not interfere with your studies. You have to take time out for studies, besides homework, on a daily basis.

A lot of kids have been writing to Super Sis seeking advice on how to improve their grades or how to remember what they read. Super Sis has been answering these queries from time to time — the gist of which is being regular, maintaining a schedule and paying attention to what is being taught in class, and revising it at home. To help you further, this week we have included two articles which provide a guideline to avoiding exam phobia and improving your memory and retaining what you have read. I hope it will provide some relief even to the late starters, who have not yet begun or have just opened their books.

This week’s cover story also aims at giving some guidance to those who have not yet made up their minds as to what career to choose. This is a big problem for all of you as you have a lot of difficulty in deciding what field you want to pursue. You can’t just study medicine or engineering because your parents want you to be a doctor or an engineer or because your best friend has decided to do so. You have to see your inclination and aptitude, as well as keep in view a lot of other factors. Read the cover story to have an idea what factors you have to keep in mind before choosing your career. We have been receiving a lot of requests from you to start a column on career counselling, which shows your dilemma and the will to seek advice. We are making arrangements in this regard and hope to start a relevant column.

Keep writing to us, we need your feedback.

See you next week!

Bye!

Ed
