STORY TIME: The prank

By Anika Javaid

“Hi Asfia what’s up?”I asked my friend while checking my e-mails.

“Nothing yaar I am bored to death.”Came the reply, meanwhile I saw that one of my class fellows had signed in.”Hello Ali.”

“Hi how are you,” came his reply. “Are you there,” Asfia’s message came.

“Sorry yaar I was just thinking that you are bored and Ali has signed in.” “Ohh, well lets think of something”, said Asfia. “Ok give me a minute,” said I.

“Hey Ali let’s add Asfia to our conversation.” I said.

“Ok,” he agreed.

“Well actually we wanted to tell you something, Ali , so Asfia you start with it.”I started with the drama.

“Please don’t ask me to, I don’t know how to start it. You tell him.”

“Same problem here but somebody has to say it.”

“Will somebody bother to tell me what crime have I committed?” Came Ali’s message with an angry smiley.

“Well actually I have got to go so bye Ali and bye Anika, said Asfia”

“Ali you will know everything tomorrow and I have got to go too, so bye,” said I.

Here I want to mention that my class fellows are usually abusing the teachers and principal, so that is why Ali was really nervous because he thought that one of us had heard him and we had told the principal.

“Well done I didn’t expect that he is such a dumbo, well done Asfia.”I congratulated Asfia after blocking Ali.

”Well done to you too,” came the reply. “Well thanks, lets see what will happen tomorrow.”

”I can hardly wait.”

We both thought that we were real smart to make a fool out of Ali but if even one of us would have heard the saying

“The one who tries to make a fool out of someone is but a fool himself,” we would never have played the prank in the first place!

Next day was Friday and we both reached school early in the morning to share the excitement. We waited patiently for half an hour but after that we grew anxious and started looking at the gate for Ali but he didn’t arrive until the bell, and neither of us could assess the feelings behind his blank face.

We had planned to tell him after the first period that the principal had called his father and prepared his suspension letter and that she was calling him downstairs to her office. And then when we would be half way to the administration block we would tell him every thing. But we were peacefully sitting in the library and hardly half of the period had gone by when all three of us were called by the principal downstairs. The book that I was reading nearly fell from my hand and Asfia just sat there open mouthed, Ali was worried too but we were worried for some other reasons and he for other reasons.

When we reached the office after five minutes which seemed like five micro seconds to me to my utter shock Ali’s father was sitting right in front of the principal, I couldn’t blink my eyes and my feelings were beyond description, and as for Asfia I didn’t have the courage to turn my head around. It took a little while before it dawned on me that Ali had told his father about our little chat and he had come to school to apologize for whatever his son had done.

I guess you can imagine what happened next. The principal said she was calling our parents and suspending both of us for three days, but amazingly enough Ali’s father came to our rescue and requested the principal to forgive us!

That day I vowed to myself that I would never play a prank on any-

body and the same goes for Asfia.
