MUSIC: Huqqa pani

By Filza Naveed

The latest sensation in the Pakistani music scene seems to be gorgeous model-turned actor-turned singer, Ali Zafar. He seems to have gotten bored of modelling and acting and his latest passion is singing. And is he good at it or what? His debut album, Huqa Pani is sure to be a smashing hit.

The album starts of with Channo, a powerful bubble-gum flavoured pop track, which is being aired on all Pakistani music channels these days. You may not even have liked it when it was first aired but I’m sure you all love it now. The next song is the title track, Huqa Pani, which is probably the best song in the whole album. It has a refreshing, funky flavour and is irresistible for those with dancing feet. It seems to have been inspired by the Indian band, Stereo Nation’s style of singing but it still has a unique flavour. Then comes, Chal Dil Meray, which is pretty good and once you start liking it, you’ll get used to it. Rangeen is another lively track, which gets you in the dancing spirit. With amazing vocals, this track is brilliant with a powerful voice. It’s hard to believe that Ali Zafar, with his cute, boyish looks can produce such a strong manly voice. After this, the album starts getting mellow and tracks like Teri Yaad Aayi and Din doobey are pretty slow but others like Jugnoon se bhar le aanchal, Ek pal, and Ishq are pretty good. Jugnoon is a very beautiful song with excellent vocals and lyrics. It was originally sung for a Pakistani film.

Overall, I’d say that this album is pretty good and Ali Zafar proves to be a talented singer. This guy definitely has more to him than just dashing looks and his hard work seems to have paid off. He has not only attracted the female populace but also the males with his songs. All I have to say is don’t miss out this album because if you do then you’re definitely missing a lot.
