Debate: Abusive language

By Filza Naveed

No matter where I go or where I look, I always hear young teens using repulsive and abusive language. I am disgusted by this behaviour. It makes me extremely annoyed and angry. The Internet is mostly to blame. When I visited one of the chat rooms for the first time, I was shocked to see the kind of language being used. But what can we do, we can’t live without computers either!

Recently, just outside my school I saw a crowd of kids looking utterly shocked. I joined the crowd and was astonished to see a sixth grade boy of my school fighting with a girl. Both of them were using bad language in front of many teachers. The girl said something bad to the boy, and he, enraged by her language took a stick and came rushing forward to beat the girl. If the teachers hadn’t stopped the boy he would have smashed the poor girl to pieces. I was horrified by this wild and uncivilized behaviour.

Is this the kind of impression today’s kids give? This incident left a bad impression. Not to mention, such incidents leave a bad impression about our country too!

But we shouldn’t blame kids and teens for everything. The adults are partly to be blamed as well.

A few days ago, a friend of my mother came to visit us. She told us that her maid abuses her children and uses bad language.

When kids hear foul language they will learn to use it as well, because children learn from their environment. Why do kids and teens pick up bad things so quickly and easily? Just because they want to be cool! Why don’t they pick on other good deeds? Why? If this is the kind of generation today and if this is what the world has become then I fear to think about how all of this will affect our future generations.
