Things To Do: Making toys

By Ghanim Akhter

I know you are not so young to play with toys but still you will enjoy making one. If not for yourself maybe for your siblings. So come on, let’s make a soft cute toy.

Things you need

* Some felt of different cool colours.

* Thread and needle.

* Some toy filling or cotton.

* Embroidery threads.

* Buttons for eyes and nose.

Getting started

First decide the size of the toy you wish to make. Avoid making large toys in the beginning, avoid very small toys too. A 6-inch size will be good. Double your cloth and draw the outline of your toy. Now cut it neatly. You have two similar pieces of cloth, the back and the front portion. Keep both these pieces one over the other and neatly sew it with thread and needle. Don’t forget to leave some unstitched place to insert the cotton or toy filling. Now take the inner side out. You have a bag and a pocket like thing in front of you. Fill it with toy filling or cotton and sew the opening with thread and needle.

Finishing

Take two buttons and sew them at the place of the eyes. Also give your toy a nose. A mouth can also be made with fabric paint or you can also embroider it. You can sew some colourful patches of cloth on your toy’s body to make it more colourful and attractive.

Your toy is ready. If you don’t want it to be naked, award it with some clothes. You can make a fish, a cat or even a dice.

These stuffs can also be used as key chains. All you have to do is tie some ribbon to it and hang it with your bag or you can pin it with a safety pin with your bag and can use it as a broach. You can also present them to your siblings. It’s fun, so do make sure you do it. Have a fun!
