Health Line: Winter cold — if you get it, don’t spread it


Colds and flu do more than just give you, stuffy nose. It can give you chest aches and aching joints as well. It spreads easily and people around you are most likely to catch this disease from you.

Other children, who are suffering already, infect children at school and the cycle continues. Colds and flu are most infectious during the winter season and it’s very easy to catch the disease. Flu produces headaches, runny nose and coughing. Here are a few things you can do to help lower the risk of getting a flu from someone else, or spreading the germs.

Wash your hands with antibacterial soap and water frequently. People often pick up germs by shaking hands and touching common objects around the office, such as pencils, doorknobs, copiers, and telephones. These objects may carry germs that can then infect the body when we touch our nose and eyes. Clean all the objects that you use and keep separate ones if possible. Thoroughly wash cups and utensils, or use disposable cups. Avoid passing around food that people tend to share, such an snacks or desserts. Wash your hands away from your nose and eyes. Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough. Avoid Crowds if possible. Eat a nutritious, well-balanced diet. Get plenty of rest. Use Separate glasses, dishes, eating utensils, and towels for each family member. Use disposable facial tissues. Stop Sharing toothpaste with other family members. This practice can spread germs from toothbrush to toothbrush.
 


What are Flu shots?

To get a flu shot means to get yourself vaccinated in order to avoid flu. A flu shot lasts for only one season so it is necessary to get one every season. It takes about two weeks for full protection to take affect. Although the flu vaccine is not a guarantee against getting the flu but it reduces your likelihood and minimizes the severity of the infection.

It takes about two weeks for complete protection to take place. So make sure that you get a flu shot every season. Prevention is better than cure. Some people are also immune to flu. These are usually the people who had suffered from it the previous season. This is because you develop natural immunity to the disease after suffering from it.
 


Prevention is the Key

Flu spreads very simply. In case you are one of the victims you should care soundly for yourself. See a doctor. For home medication you can take paracetamol or similar mild medicine.

Drink plenty of fluids and take light meals. Pay particular attention to wash your hands and use tissue paper to blow your nose, dispose them in a polythene bag and seal before disposal.

Try to stay at home till you recover. Normally viral infections recover on their own.
