“I didn’t mean to, I didn’t mean to!”. He had kept on saying these words to console himself but to no avail. Was it any good, was it providing him comfort and Solace? While recalling the past’s painful events, tears kept on flowing continuously from his eyes. He never thought in his wildest dreams that such a minor mistake of his could bring agony and misery to so many people. Peer pressure had almost ruined his whole future.
If only he had paid any heed to his parents when they warned him not to get into wrong things. If only he had understood, when his dad told him that he was too young to drive. If only he could turn back time and erase the horrifying moments of his life.
He was the only one among his friends, who did not know how to drive. Thus on his sixteenth birthday, he asked his dad to give him the permission to drive. But his dad flatly refused. However, he was so determined to follow his friends’ footsteps that he asked one of his friends to be his trainer. And hence his so-called driving lessons started. When his parents asked the reason for his absence from home, he always lied telling them that he was taking tuitions from a friend. His friend was no professional trainer and taught him how to drive rashly as he did himself.
The first time he took control of the steering wheel, he was delirious with happiness. He felt as if he was very close to accomplishing his quest to drive. He was delighted that now his friends would not make fun of him as they previously did when he was unable to drive. He thought his parents would be happy when they know that he has grown up, that he has learnt to drive. But he was highly mistaken. His dad scolded him, his mom started crying and his sister was bewildered to know that her brother has betrayed them. He was infuriated and exasperated by the reaction of his family. He was grounded for an unlimited time period and was prevented from driving.
This made him think that no one cared for him. For many days, he ignored the constant temptation of driving but finally he couldn’t tolerate it any more. In the midst of the night, he got hold of the car and drove it away. The more he drove, the more he felt calm and composed. The more he increased the speed, the more he felt at ease. Driving for more than two hours, he realized that it was time to return home. The misfortune then took place.
Maintaining the high speed in which he was driving, as he turned into his lane, he mistakenly drove his car into the sidewalk instantly killing two children who were sleeping peacefully unaware of the disaster.
The voice of the policeman brought him back to the present time. Only his parents had come to meet him, as there was no sight of his sister. His mother’s eyes were still wet with tears while his father refused to look at him. He knew there was no way he could un-do the damage he had caused. He knew that his future has now turned bleak. He knew that there was no way he could get out from behind the bars, which confined him. He realized that he should have never broken the rules in the first place. But weeping over the past was of no use. Just because of his desire to drive, he had taken away the lives of two innocent children. He just hoped that the fate of his friends wouldn’t be similar to his. He hopes that his friends and others would refrain from doing the same mistake, which he did i.e. driving before the legal age.
