No discrimination please!

I have a friend who is interested in doing her A levels but cannot afford it. She is very religious and wears a scarf. While looking for a job, during an interview she was asked not to wear a scarf during office hours. I was shocked and failed to understand the reason. A number of institutions have imposed a ban on wearing a scarf, this is specially common in missionary schools.

My only question is that if wearing a scarf is acceptable in non-Muslim countries then why can’t they do so in Pakistan.

Pollution

Pollution has accompanied man since the beginning. It is not at all new but as time passes by it increases due to more and more people and misuse of new technology. Pollution of many types exist, air pollution, water pollution and noise pollution are to name just a few. Noise pollution is also very harmful as it causes many diseases. In Pakistan there is a lot of pollution. There are no proper waste disposal systems so I request the government to install proper waste disposal systems and I also request the people to keep their homes, streets, schools and work places clean and pollution free. This will go a long way to curb the menace.

Ups and downs of life

Life is a tough journey full of ups and downs, but then we should not get discouraged by these problems.

Every man has problems no one is free from worry be it rich or poor. A girl who is used to getting first position be it in a class test or a debate competition, cannot come to terms with the idea of not coming first. However, a girl who is used to getting the first position can come to terms with second position if she thinks that winning and losing are both part of life and that one learns from their mistakes. It is important to be able to adjust with different life situations as we become better human beings.

GUL-E-LALA

Urdu

This letter is in response to the letters printed in YW regarding course book for O-level Urdu-A. Being an O-level student myself, I too face the same problem.

The problem is not that the language used is too literary or that we are a bunch of anglophiles gone a tad thick in the head. The thing is that the book is way too vulgar for us. I agree that these things do happen and we are all aware of them, but why bring them to the classroom to give the students a hard time swallowing what they’re studying?

Our parents and teachers have always been protecting us from unhealthy literature. Then what should it end up snickering on your desk? Boy, it’s so embarrassing! It’s one of those books no one would like being caught reading. What sort if literature is that?

Therefore, all of us O-level students would like to have a break from vulgarity. We hope this book will be repealed soon to ensure a blush-free classroom.

Corruption

At the time of independence Pakistan seemed to have a prosperous future. Our leaders had great hopes. Now one wonders what happened to the Pakistan that our leaders dreamed about.

It is appalling to see the condition of our country which is getting worse day by day. Corruption is on the rise in all departments. No one can get a job without a kickback. Merit seems to be losing it’s value. I know a number of students who are the best in their fields but are jobless because of poverty. I would like to request the government of Pakistan to look into the matter and uproot corruption that is rampant in our country so that we come up to the expectations of our great leader and direct our country towards an outstanding future.

This is with reference to the letter by Yumna Zuberi (YW December 20). The story referred to has been written by me and if someone thinks that I have copied it I would like the name of the book and the page number from which it is copied so that I can verify it myself.
