Miscellanea: Aviation Week

December 17, 1903 was the day marked in history as the first step towards a bright future in aviation. On this day the Wright brothers successfully accomplished the first flight by a small and light aircraft, the flight lasted only 12-seconds covering a distance of 120 feet in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This year is the witnessing 100 years of flight.

On this historical moment, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is celebrating Aviation Week from December 14 to 21. During this week people will witness the aerobatics by PAF aircraft in Islamabad and Karachi. PAF Museum will also remain open for the general public.

In Lahore, an ultralight aircraft and aero-modelling show has been started at its Lahore base, old airport. Around 20 ultralight aircraft have been put on display in this show. These aircraft also presented a fly past while three aero-modelling clubs were scheduled to present aero-modelling by remote control aircraft.

Aerobatics by PAF aircraft (T-37s, F16 and K-8) will be put on display on Sunday at 3pm at Seaview Beach near Village Restaurant. This display will be open to the general public as well.

 

Child Labour Free Week

The global issue of child labour is on the rise, specially in Pakistan. Due to poor economic situations children are assuming adult responsibilities at a minor age and unfortunately are working under hazardous conditions that are affecting their health adversely. In order to create awareness within the community, the Association of Network for Community Empowerment (ANCE) recently celebrated ‘child labour free week’.

The main objective of the programme was to spread awareness within the community, for this they organized a rally in Baghbanpura Industrial area in which about 2000 students participated. A speech competition was also held among educational institutes at Qurban School and College; more than 400 students participated and delivered speeches about Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The occasion was graced by the ambassador of Italy, who was the chief guest.
