Movie: Terminator 3

By Taimur Saleem

In a summer that is typified by rash sequels, T3 manages to “terminate” the competition and slot in a well-deserved place in the explosive Terminator saga. Directed by Jonathan Mostow, T3 delivers a rich measure of suspenseful action and raw science-fictional energy.

The technically advanced and apparently unstoppable T-X, the Terminatrix is sent by the machines from the future to kill now 22-year old John Connor (Nick Stahl), the future leader of the humans who is to lead the unyielding resistance against the machines in the future.

Believing that the Judgment Day had been eluded, he is still apprehensive of cyborgs returning from the future to wipe out his existence. In order to keep John Connor in one piece as he becomes entangled in the first battle with the SkyNet machine network, Arnold Schwarzenegger is dispatched from the future as the upgraded T-800 unit: the T-850.

As the franchise climbs its crescendo, T3 comes across as a well-engineered, action-packed thriller. A vivid plethora of well-placed special effects and awe-inspiring chases gives an electrifying boost to the movie. Kristanna Loken does full justice to her role as the high-heeled, villainous T-X. However, the story-line could have used a little more homework to prevent both the loose ends and any feelings of familiarity with the story of T2.

At the end of the day, my verdict: very well spent 90 minutes! T3 just might be the thing that can restore your faith in summer sequels!
