The Punjab Tourism Development Corporation celebrated World Tourism Day last month. This programme was held at the Children’s Library Complex, in which about 15 schools participated. Students came up with admirable performances. They staged skits, delivered speeches and sung national songs. The best of all the events was the painting competition in which children were asked to design posters on the topic “Tourism a driving force for poverty alleviation, job creation and social harmony”. A large number of entries were received out of which Zahra of Links Grammar School, won the first prize. The prizes were presented by chief guests — Mian Mohammad Aslam (provincial minister Tourism), Sajjad Hussain Chatta (Secretary Tourism, Wildlife and Forestry Department) and Dr Lubna Tariq (Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism).

Storm in the world cup
On Saturday October 4, Storm in the world cup took Karachi Gymkhana by storm. Presented by the Shaukat Khanam Memorial Trust, this witty play had the entire audience in stitches. Full of hilarious political jokes, it attracted an immense audience from all age groups.
The popular favourites were Ms. Qazi as Madam Beshareef and a boy who did an amazing impersonation of Benazir Bhutto, that made everyone rock with laughter. The play lasted for around an hour and was very refreshing. It was a wonderful evening. Were we to have more such events to entertain our youth it would certainly lessen the amount of their aimless gallivanting. The Shaukat Khanam Trust is to be congratulated.
At this point I would like to take liberty of spreading their message to the people who were not at the play. The trust has, at the moment, a hospital in Lahore where they treat cancer patients for a very nominal charge with good success. They are planning to build a hospital in Karachi now, where the chairman of their board is Imran Khan. If anyone has sympathetic feelings towards those who have cancer they should perhaps donate money or time and effort to this noble cause.
