I WOULD like to draw your attention towards street cricket which is no doubt a great source of entertainment to children as it gives them some time for physical activity without going far away from their residence. but sometimes this causes much damage to our surroundings. I just want to ask these kids that while playing they should keep in mind that their play should not disturb anyone. It is quite possible that at that time some one might be praying, preparing for exams or taking rest, so take care of the comfort of your neighbours.

Water pollution
TODAY we are facing a big environmental problem of water pollution.
There are major industries such as leather, chemical, textile and paper, etc, that pose a threat to the environment. These industries discharge their waste into the sea and rivers, which in turn finds its way to clean water resources. This causes many diseases. We should try to prevent this by taking positive measures. I would suggest that the government take notice of this problem as well.

Stop and think!
THIS is regarding the current health hazard to the people living on the beaches of the Arabian Sea, specially the seven and a-half kilometre stretch starting from Shirin Jinnah colony to Sea View.
Since July 27 all the responsible authorities have been shifting the blame onto the other’s shoulders without thinking about the consequences of this massive oil spill on the residents of this area. We must understand that serious efforts are needed to reduce health hazards. Now is the time for us to act and save our coast line.

Why this discrimination?
I WANT to see Pakistan as the best Islamic and cultural centre in the whole world. If you visit Punjab you won’t believe that you are in a Pakistani province, as it is extremely well-maintained. Sindh on the other hand is not being given much importance. I just wish to request the government not to discriminate between different provinces and work for the betterment of all the four provinces of Pakistan as one is nothing without the other.

Mobile mania
MOBILE phones nowadays have become a showpiece rather than a necessity. People, specially teen-agers, are buying and changing expensive cell phones every now and then in order to keep up with this trend. The basic objective of utility has been pushed to the backdrop and the prestige and status aspects have taken over. Mobile manufacturing companies have started to market cases of different colours to match of your clothes which indirectly also promotes the fashion aspect of this accessory.
I request everyone not to follow this trend as it is such a waste.

Rude people
IT’S a shame to see that many well-educated and literate people have no respect for others around them. Not only do these people speak rudely with their elders, but do the same with little children too. They speak harshly and use disdainful words which hurt the other person.
I think such people must learn to lower their harsh tones, as it not only insults the person they are speaking rudely to, but also embarrasses oneself. Others might think that such people lack good manners and reasonableness.
People who have rude moods and attitudes are probably disliked by all. Therefore, my advice to all is to speak softly, nicely, and gently with everyone, even when angry.
