It was a scene to behold: the teenager was challenging his little sister to go upstairs (where it was dark due to power failure) and get his watch from his room. She was putting up one excuse after another for not going there. Not that she didn’t want to help her brother. In fact, she wanted to go there, but couldn’t make herself move in that direction. She even risked being ridiculed and made fun of, when the brother publicly accused her of being a scared goose. You know the reason. Yes, she was afraid of the darkness. And she is not the only one in such a predicament.
Interestingly, there are many who are afraid of such insignificant things. We have heard of people being afraid of mice and lizards and cockroaches. But these are very common things. There are numerous other things the mere mention of which gives people the shivers. If you start counting the things which frighten people, you will end up with a never-ending list. Recently while searching the net for something I came across an interesting website (www.phobialist.com) which has a long list of phobias. Going through the web, it seemed as if fear for almost anything in the world exists. But the good news is that a phobia is not untreatable and doctors can help you get rid of your fear, provided you do not have a doctors’ phobia!
