Poet's Corner

Mother of the Nation

She was the Mother of the Nation
She hated the fashion
She wore simple dress
On women’s education she laid stress
She fought for peace
She had a great seat
She was a leader of the nation
She had a great passion
She took action about injustice
She gave everyone justice
She said, “Women are not weak
And can climb the highest peak.
If a woman is educated
The nation will also be educated.”
Fatima Jinnah is the Mother of the Nation
She had great patience.

Rain!

Rain! Rain! Rain
Please come again
To play and run
And have some fun
Rain! Rain! Rain!
Please come again
To laugh and sing
And slide and swing
Rain! Rain! Rain!
Please come again
To rock and roll
And play some more.

First raindrop falls on the ground
Like it is striking on my heart
I walk outside; untie my hair
To allow them wander in the air
Then I dive in the ocean of memories
A deep wide ocean,
And up on the seventh sky,
Over the heaven I go
Drops keep on falling
From the sky, and my eyes
By looking at the past
Full of sorrows and sighs
When cool breeze hit my face
I shut my eyes to hear what it says
Rain keep on falling with voice I love
I get insane, feeling droplets’ tender touch
Water will rise and I will have to run
Like the glorious sky and blazing sun
The sudden sound of thunder takes me back
It is the rainy day and the contentment never lacks
Leaving aside the sorrows and the pains
I feel the beckoning and I am lost in the rain.

I was having fun on my garden,
Suddenly the dark clouds began to gather,
Forming a black ceiling on the sky,
Together they rumbled and splashed the rain on the ground
I was soaked with water from head to toe
Suddenly I felt a big chill and sneezed At that moment the clouds ran away
And the rain stopped!

Tiny tiny drops of rain
Make us feel relieved from pain
They are just like tears in eyes
And so they make us feel nice
Water is nature of our God
It is a gift from our Lord
Rain is a beautiful thing
In rain we can also sing
It makes us happy when we are sad
It makes us feel good when we are bad
Tiny tiny drops of rain
Make us feel relieved from pain

Solving our problems

Altogether,
Holding Hands,
Let us gather,
And take a stand, Work to wipe out pollution,
And solve these problems with sensible solutions
And isn’t that a worthy cause,
To benefit Earth and then feel
As though pollution never was?
To defend a belief truly worth fighting for?
To finish off all this hatred and all this war?
So once again in peace we shall live,
And feel the joy you experience when you give,
And then you will see,
Certainly,
The little things you do,
You’re lending a helping hand,
So, well count you in too,

When I go outside

When I go outside
I see the lovely flowers
When I go to the countryside
I see the baby animals
Now I know that spring is here
Let’s all shout Hurry!

Moon

The Moon is a lightning star
But it is much too far
It shines bright
But its colour is white
It reflects from the sun
But children play in moonlight with fun
Its light is creating tides
And people are walking at sea sides
It has a beautiful view,
To see a moon, stand at sea view.

Things I hate

Things that I hate,
How do I tell you my friend?
When I fail in tests
Mommy knows that I can’t pretend
I get a good beating from her
And a scolding from Dad
Oh, how I hate turning overnight
From good to bad
Whenever I fall sick
I have to visit clinics
Oh, how I hate the doctor
When that injection he pricks

RIDA HUSSAIN,
Karachi
