Things To Do: Fabric painting
When you think of the word ‘summer’ what comes to your mind? Hot scorching, sunny days, clear blue skies; and warm winds beating your face.
In summer you like to wear light, flowery prints. And sometimes you want to wear prints, designed all by yourself. “Now how is this possible?”, you may ask. Well, if you know fabric painting you can create your own designs on your clothes. So, today let’s learn how to paint fabrics.
Things you need
* First of all you will need the fabric on which you want to paint on -- a kurta, a kameez or a dupatta or may be even a sleeveless top which you can wear with jeans or pants.
* Fabric paints. Get bright colours like pink, orange, red, blue, green, and purple. Avoid buying colours such as grey, brown or golden silver because it is summer and these colours are bound to make you feel warm. Bright and sharp colours give a cool effect.
* You will also need black-led to give outlines to your painting, this will make your print more prominent and beautiful.
* And don’t forget the brush.
Getting started
First of all spread a newspaper at the place you plan to work. Then spread your cloth on it. Straighten the cloth and hold it firmly because the results are better on a tightly stretched garment.
But wait! Please don’t stretch your jersey or stretchable shirt because that story would end right there.
Now first of all take green or yellow colour to make centres of the flowers. Then paint their petals with a free hand. You can paint different type of flowers if you like. I have made a few prints for you.
If you don’t feel confident, you can first draw the design of your choice on the fabric with the help of a pencil.
Don’t paint everywhere!
Don’t paint the whole fabric. See where it would look the best. At the lower part of your shirt or only at the sleeves, or maybe just one big flower in front.
Finishing
After your painting dries up completely, give it an outline with black-lead. It is not a must that you paint only floral designs. You can also paint large cute butterflies or a beautiful yellow and black bee. I think my designs would help you make a choice.
