Computers: Working with autoshapes

By Zarina Patel

Most students like geometry. Many students create beautiful designs and characters from geometrical shapes (triangle, rectangle, circles and lines, etc.). If you are among those who like to make diagrams from the combination of different geometrical shapes then “auto shapes” gives you an opportunity to explore your talent.

What are autoshapes?

These are groups of different shapes such as rectangles, circles, triangles, freeform lines, symbols, stars, banners, and callouts. You can select any shape to make designs and figures. Auto shapes are included in MS word, PowerPoint and MS Excel program files.

Properties of auto shapes

* Every auto shape can be resized.

* You can colour the shape with the help of the “fill colour” option.

* The “add text” option helps you to add text within the shape.

* If you want to highlight the shape then use “line colour” to create lines around the shape.

* Combine two or three shapes to make designs.

* Shapes can be turned around from one side to the other.

* Different effects can be applied to shapes such as adding shadow or making shapes 3dimensional (3D).

* Shapes can be flipped horizontally and vertically.
