Police Harassment

I THINK the police is responsible for an increase in crime. Policemen do as they wish, they have meals at hotels and take fruit from vendors without paying.

Culprits are live fearlessly with the backing of the police and innocent people are locked up in jails. This is one reason why people avoid giving correct statement and being witnesses in court. The police who are supposed to be the protectors of the people are accomplices in a number of crimes. I wonder where the common man should turn for justice. I wish the concerned authorities would do something to rectify this state of affairs and make the police true protectors of the people of this country.

Teaching English

I FELT very bad as I recently read about a student who committed suicide on hearing the news of his repeated failure in English. English is an international language and is highly valued in Pakistan, yet we have very few good teachers here. Most of the students who belong to the not so fortunate strata of society develop a certain kind of aversion towards English teachers.

I have been taught by various teachers; some had taught in England, others had come from various other prestigious colleges and some were not very fluent in the language. One aspect that was common to all was arrogance. I want to say that we need dedicated teachers who are willing to teach those who need their help and lead poor students to success.

Some queries

I WANT to know if I can send poems not written by me and mention the poet and the source. Besides this, can I send you translations of religious and other stories of moralistic value and mention the source too.

NIMRA AIJAZ

Dear Nimra, we prefer original material and print lifted material only if it is extra ordinary or has some valuable message. Hence, it is not advisable to send poems by other poets. As for translated stuff we prefer that the translation or selection is done by senior writers who have more experience and are a better judge.
If you want to see your name in print try writing something using your own creativity.

Incident at Quetta

THE gloomy incident that took place in Quetta at the Imambargah leaving 44 dead and 65 injured, during Friday prayers was a sad incident. The people involved have not been identified yet. We are not even sure as to how many people were involved in this heinous crime. I wonder if those people who were involved feel any remorse for their actions. I, as a citizen, feel extremely sorry for this incident and ask everyone to pray for these martyrs. May Allah give comfort to the people who lost their loved ones. I pray to Allah to show these people the right path. Ameen.

Music

NOWADAYS, people seem to be completely lost in the world of ‘music’. I know that music soothes the soul, yet most music is loud noise that contributes to sound pollution. This not only disturb others but is also unhealthy for the person who listens to it as this could impair his hearing abilities. Music should be soft and sweet so that we and our neighbours remain at ease.

Public transport

KARACHI is counted among the worst polluted cities of Pakistan and transport vehicles specially the buses contribute substantially to this menace. The recent introduction of Green (CNG) buses and Metro buses are a great boon to the people and the environment. They provide good service, are air-conditioned, spacious and affordable. Besides this, they don’t pollute the atmosphere like other buses. They have brought about a great change in the way people used to travel and are ideal for a hassle-free and comfortable journey.
