Being a regular listener of DJ Shehla’s evening shows, I have often heard her ask that million dollar question (she termed it that way), ‘why does the room get dirty in no time?’ (I think those were the exact words). Anyway whatever the words this question is indeed difficult to answer. It’s nothing short of answering a knotty mathematics problem (and don’t you dare to ask about my skills in mathematics.)
Just yesterday mama decided to take evening tea in my room and I’m still wondering what compelled her to do so as that pleasant evening later turned into a black one, as I had to bear a long and boring lecture on room cleanliness on account of my messy room.
Let me tell you what got her fuming. Well, the things she got her hands on were the album covers and my books. You must be wondering what the hell these two have to do with mama’s anger. Well, the album covers were placed in my course books as bookmarks. Actually, whenever I’m studying the phone bell always bugs me and the nearest bookmarks available at that time are none other than the cute album covers, and when I run out of those then my hair bands come in handy. The red one in George Eliot’s Mill on the Floss and the purple with white stripes is placed in Graham Greene’s Human Factor and so the list goes on.
The next thing that raised her eyebrow was my messed up bed sheet. She very subtly asked “Kia Bed Par Koodtee Ho? (Do you jump on the bed?)”. But when she saw the mess under my bed she completely blew it. This huge mess contained my nighttime novels and the clothes that needed to get washed. Another thing that added to the nasty look of my room was my ever disorganized writing table, the cause of chaos in my room.
So at the end of mama’s inspection, I was termed sluggish and nasty. And guess what — mama told me my hidden traits for the umpteenth time.
Mom feels that girls usually keep their rooms in order and well organized so she wonders why am I like that. Well, what she fails to understand is that I’m trying to change the whole concept of girls being spick and span specially with regards to room cleanliness.
Nay! That’s not the case really; I mean I’m not that messy. I usually clean up my room after a day or two but God knows why it gets untidy in a few minutes again.
And as DJ Shehla Shams termed the whole scenario as ‘the theory that was never solved by any great thinker of the world’, I whole-heartedly agree with this remark. hmmm! I’m sure a few heads will nod in my favour.
