Travel: Lake Saiful Muluk

By Murtaza Habib Shakir

Life is full of mixed emotions. Happiness, joy, stress and difficulty. Sometimes we are high and sometimes we are low, tired and oppressed from routine work and engagements. In order to relieve this anxiety and strain our mind and body needs some relaxation. Relaxation can be attained through many ways but the best way to relax is to travel. Visiting astounding places in different parts of the world and witnessing nature’s creation are the best way to ease and balance our stress level.

If your pockets are full and if you hold an adventurous spirit, then this is the best way to spend a vacation. Many people travel as a hobby, many do it as a vocation, and many have a passion attached to it. One feels happy seeing the bounties of nature and the fascination it holds. Like all other countries, Pakistan is also blessed with rich natural resources, gleaming mountains, healthy resorts, flowing fountains, exuberant rivers, historical sites, ravishing places and much more.

The Kaghan Valley is a part of Pakistan that is filled with immense wonders and miracles of nature, which are unbelievable and breath taking. It is famous for its enchanting beauty and sensational lakes, specially the Lake Saif-ul-Muluk. Its beauty lies in the fact that it is situated between two huge mountains known as Malika Parbat, which is generally known as the Queen of mountains and provides a breath taking view.

The lake is named after the legendary prince Saif-ul Muluk. It is a world famous tourist spot. This natural lake is 3,353 metres above sea level and is about 167 kilometres from Abbottabad. The lake is about 805 metres long and about 458 metres wide. The story behind this great lake is a unique one. According to the legends the charm and charisma of this lake attracted Prince Saif-ul Muluk and he used to visit it several times. One day during his visit he saw a beautiful young lady known as Badiuzzaman playing along the banks of the enchanted lake. They both got attracted to each other and their love increased day by day. The story of their romance spread far and wide. Then suddenly, one day the lady stopped coming. The prince could not bear the pain and distress of separation and started looking for her at this particular point. The prince searched for her and finally succeeded in his mission and married the young lady.

I always wished to visit the Lake Saiful Muluk, as I had read much about its enchantment and its tale of romance.
