Written by the same author who wrote the best-selling classic Tom’s Midnight Garden, the story of Minnow on the Say once again has the same mystical quality so characteristic of books by Phillipa Pearce.
The story starts innocently enough, with David, the main character, finding a mysterious canoe floating on the river. But as one clue leads to another, so the canoe leads him to Adam and a great friendship begins. Together the boys embark on a great adventure to find the remains of a lost treasure. A treasure that could easily change the course of their lives (if they find it, that is). There are riddles to solve, many canoe rides to and fro along the river and a lot of history to delve into. Throw in a bit of danger and the story has enough grip to involve you till its end. Readers will enjoy the great readability of Phillipa Pearce’s writing and her ability to combine the past with the present. A good weekend read!
