MUSIC: Audioslave

By Nabeel A. Farooqui

Bingo! The intense and the most diversified industrial band, ‘Rage Against The Machine’, is back with its energetic and hi-fi tunes. However, Zack De La Rocha (vocals) fans are in for a little disappointment as he has been replaced by Chris Cornell of ‘Sound Garden’. The band is now known as ‘Audioslave’ and is out with their debut album with the same name.

The CD features fourteen extremely lively songs with some interesting synthesizers and loops by Tom Morello (bassist) and rock-n-roll drumming by Brad Wilk.

The album begins with Cochise. This song features the rampage of the not-so-famous native American, chief of the Apaches, who fought against US soldiers from 1861 to 1872 in order to prevent them from grabbing the land that belonged to his people.

The next number Show Me How To Live and Set It Off are both influenced by the heavy metal genre of music.

Then comes Gasoline, which is a little different from what the rest of the album has to offer. Like A Stone comes next which is one of the featured songs of the album. It is more guitar oriented and a bit offbeat.

Numbers such as Exploder, Light My Way and I’m the Highway, lend a more rock-n-roll feel to the album.

The CD ends up with Bring ‘Em Back Alive, which is cool and is bound to get you in the typical industrial metal mood.

No one can replace Zack but the new guy is doing pretty well too. The album is actually more synthesizers and loops oriented. This album is a must for all heavy metal and hard rock fans.
