POETS CORNER

World Cup 2003
The excitement is in the air
Which can be cheerfully felt
What is about to come?
We know it will be really fun
Hope is in everyone’s heart
But let’s see what comes out
Yes, I am talking about the World Cup 2003
Which is driving us all crazy
Good luck to the Pakistani team
For it will be an honour if they win.

AMNA RAHAT, 16 years

Granny thinks we’re fools
I hate to go to school
Sis hates to go to swimming pools
Bro hates to work with tools
Granny thinks we’re fools
I get angry when I have to go to school
My dad’s angry when there’s no fuel
My mom drinks water to cool
Granny thinks we’re fools
I questioned, ‘Do plants have souls?’
My sis thinks about catching a mole
My bro gets this idea of reaching the North Pole
Granny thinks we’re fools
I hate to wait
Sis hates getting late
Bro hates to fight with his mates
Granny still thinks we’re fools.

Witch
Witch...witch, where do you fly
Under the clouds and over the sky
Witch...witch, what do you eat?
Little black apples from hurricane street
Witch...witch, what do you drink?
Vinegar, black ink or good old red ink?
Witch...witch, where do you sleep?
Up in the clouds where pillows are cheap.

QURRAT-UL-AIN AHMAD, 8 years

Think of those
Think of those who cannot see
How dark the world for them must be
Think of those who cannot hear
No word of fun, no word of cheer
Think of those who cannot walk
Imagine a flower without a stalk
Think of those who cannot speak
How sad they are, how very meek
Think of those with damaged brains
They try so hard but all in vain
Our duty is to give them the best
So that they face life with zest
For them we all must give
So that they can get an urge to live.

SHEEZA REHMAN

Water problem
There is a problem with water supply
We have got to get that knot untied
It causes droughts and thirst
People say our country is cursed
Can’t we do something about this?
Can’t we get rid of this?
If we put our minds together
Life would be so much easier
We have to think
We have to find the link
All of our countrymen betrayed us and lied
We have to get this knot untied.

MIRA JAVERI, 13 years

My doll
I have a doll
She is very tall
Her name is Wendy
She is as sweet as candy
Her nose is rather round
She likes to play on the ground
Her hair is brown
She wears a crown
Her shoes are blue
I love dear Wendy
And I think she loves me too.

AIMAN FAJR, 9 years

Remembering Irtiza
Today when I went to school
I heard this news
It is very sad
So very bad
Whenever I remember him
I shall utter a small prayer for him
May he rest in peace
I shall always remember him
For days and nights to come
Tears rolling down his parents cheeks
Is the saddest thing for us to see
May God give them courage
May God bless his soul.

NABEELA ALTAF, 9 years

Football
I have a football
With it I play football
I play in the park
I play till it is dark
I love my football
I bought it from a shopping mall

BAKHTEYAR, 9 years

Sheeza
The only name in my mind is Sheeza
The only name on my tongue is Sheeza
The only girl I can think of is Sheeza
The only girl I can dream of is Sheeza
Who is this Sheeza
Is she a friend or a relative
Is she a pal or an imagination
Who is this Sheeza Is she someone from the past
Who I am trying to remember
Or is she someone from the future
Who will come someday... sometime?
Who is this Sheeza
Who comes again and again
Sheeza, whoever you are, come soon!

SANA NADEEM, 12 years

Flowers
There are so many flowers
Of different fragrances
And different colours
All are beautiful
All are unique
The butterflies too
As pretty as the flowers
Like to fly around from flower to flower
I like flowers very much
For me just one is not enough
I only settle for a bouquet or a bunch.
