Young World

February 8, 2003

Hi kids!

A lot is about to happen in the coming weeks. The cricket World Cup is being inaugurated today and the tournament will continue till March 23. Baqr Eid is just round the corner and you are busy tending to the animal which has been brought for sacrifice. Then the air is also filled with the shouts of ‘bo kata’ as basant is also being celebrated. These days basant festivals are held throughout the month of February. And we, of course, cannot forget Valentine’s Day which is celebrated on February 14.

All the events except the World Cup are celebrated every year. Only the World Cup comes once in four years. Keeping this in mind we have included articles covering various aspects of the coming tournament and a brief summary of the previous tournaments in this issue for your interest. It would be of special interest to those readers who were too young at the time of the last World Cup and have only recently started taking interest in this great event. In the limited space that we have we cannot do much to recreate the grandeur of the players who ruled the cricketing world in their days. But we have to rekindle their memories in the minds of those who saw them playing. Of these, you must be familiar with some names and some you must have heard from your elders. During the days when the matches are in progress hopefully we will be able to watch some glimpses of the previous tournaments and you will get a chance to see these legends in action.

The players of today are not inferior in any way. The pundits see a tough competition in the offing. I am sure we will see some great action during these six weeks. I can see all you cricket fans glued to your TV sets. Stay tuned for the action, but don’t forget your other responsibilities.

Eid Mubarak to you all!
Bye!
Ed
