MUSIC: Now or never

By Mahjabeen Sultan

T The much eagerly awaited album, ‘Now or never’ was released last year much to the delight of Nick’s fans all over the world. Nick proves himself an able musician with this 12-track debut album. The CD opens with the sensational SOS call Help me which uses some fantastic acoustic guitars and Nick’s gruff voice as an addition to its pop-mixed-rock tempo. My confession and I just wanna take you home are other successful mixes of rock guitar and light pop. With singles such as I stand for you and Girls in the USA, Nick is unquestionably out to give Def Leopard and Bryan Adams a run for their razzmatazz and hype. Blow your mind seems very Roxette-like and makes you tap your feet along with the beat. As no album is complete without a couple of ballads thrown in, we have tracks such as Do I have to cry for you and A heart without a home. The romantic Who needs the world? steals the show along with the dark Miss America, with some wicked oohs and aahs.

It was a big step, indeed to disentangle himself from America’s favourite ‘boy band’, but it has brought out Nick’s talent as an amazing rock artist. His natural tendency towards pure rock is definitely not head banging, senseless music. Being greatly appalled by rock music, this album proved to be a worthy addition to my collection.
